Phrasal Verbs

Un phrasal verb es un verbo con preposición que tiene un significado propio. Phrasal verbs son uno de los temas más difíciles para estudiantes de inglés. La mejor manera de recordarlos es aprenderlos en el contexto de una frase.

Hay 4 tipos de phrasal verbs en ingles.

1. Phrasal verb sin objeto.
Ejemplo: breakdown (romper)
My car broke down last night.
*No se puede separarlo.

2. Phrasal verb que se puede separar con el objeto.
Ejemplo: Turn off (apagar)
I turned the television off after watching the news.
*Si el objeto es un nombre se puede poner entre el verbo principal y preposición ó después.
Ejemplo: I turned off the television after watching the news ó I turned the television off after watching the news. (Ambos frases son correctas).
*Si el objeto es un pronombre entonces tiene que ir entre el verbo principal y la preposicion.

3. Phrasal verbs que no se puede separar nunca.
Ejemplo: Look for (buscar)
I looked for the restaurant but couldn't find it.

4. Phrasal verbs con dos preposiciones
Ejemplo: Get on with (llevarse bien)
I get on with her very well.

(verbo: look after - cuidar).

2. Please turn the sound down so that I can concentrate! Please turn down the sound so that I can concentrate.
(turn down - bajar el sonido).

3. The car ran out of petrol. The car ran out petrol of.
(run out of - quedarse sin).

4. I always try clothes on before buying them. I always try on clothes before buying them.
(try on - probar ropa).

5. Please fill in this form. Please fill this form in.
(fill in - rellenar formularios).
