Curso de inglés gratis: El pasado simple

Como vimos en nuestro post el pasado simple, el pasado simple es el tiempo verbal que se usa generalmente en inglés para hablar de acciones pasadas. En este post repasaremos su formación y usos.

FORMACIÓN

Las reglas del pasado simple son las mismas para todas las personas:

I finished, you finished, he finished, she finished, it finished, we finished, they finished

Afirmativas

I brushed my teeth last night (me cepillé los dientes anoche)

I saw Peter yesterday (ví a Peter ayer)

Verbos regulares → añaden -ed

Verbos irregulares → 2ª columna (tabla de verbos irregulares) (ver enlaces relacionados)

Negativas

I didn't brush my teeth last night (no me cepillé los dientes anoche)

I didn't see Peter yesterday (no ví a Peter ayer)

Usan el auxiliar didn't.

Interrogativas

Did you brush your teeth last night? (¿Te cepillaste los dientes anoche?)

Did you see Peter yesterday? (¿Viste a Peter ayer?)

Usan el auxiliar did.

USOS

1. Para hablar de una acción terminada en el pasado.

We ate in a restaurant yesterday (comimos en un restaurante ayer)
I painted the living room last weekend (pinte el salón el fin de semana pasado)
He finished the homework before going to bed. (él terminó los deberes antes de irse a la cama)
I went to the cinema yesterday (fui al cine ayer)

2. Para hablar de acciones que ocurren de forma sucesiva.

I got up at 8 o’clock. I had breakfast. Then I got dressed. Later I went into town. I met a friend and we had coffee.

(Me levanté a las 8. Desayuné. Después me vestí. Luego fuí al centro. Quedé con una amiga y tomamos un café)

3. Para hablar de situaciones en el pasado o hábitos o acciones que se repiten en el pasado.

When I was a teenager I went to a lot of concerts (cuando era adolescente iba a conciertos con mis amigos)

I really enjoyed myself when I was a teenager (me lo pasaba muy bien cuando era adolescente)

When I was at university I shared a house with my friends (cuando estaba en la Universidad vivía en una casa con mis amigos)

→ Con el pasado simple se usan con frecuencia estas expresiones de tiempo:
When - cuando
Yesterday – ayer
The day before yesterday - anteayer
Last week / month / year / Monday– la semana pasada / el mes pasado / el año pasado / el lunes pasado
Last night -anoche
Yesterday morning / afternoon / evening -ayer por la mañana / tarde / noche
Three hours / days ago - hace tres horas / días
In 1999 – en 1999
In January – en enero
Last night - anoche
